But the one thing that sets apart this specific mine is perhaps the discovery of the Bahia Emerald in 2001, better known as one of the world’s largest Emerald. The size of the Markat Stone mined from Bahia was always significantly big and impressive, sometimes weighing between 50 to 100 kilos. However, the piece weighing 300 plus kilos and having over 1 million carats has probably had the biggest Bahia Emerald worth. The Bahia Emerald price did not take too long to be estimated and was priced for nearly half a billion dollars.

The reason behind this was to keep it safe until proper court-settled ownership of the majestic Bahia Emerald was claimed. Certain people put their claims on it, and this marvelous piece of astonishment was even stolen a couple of times over the years. However, the claim by the Brazilian government stating the sole ownership of the gemstone was one of the more predominantly considered claims. They even raised concern that the gemstone was illegally mined, transported, and exported to the USA, where it was bought and stolen by several people.
In 2015, the American court put a restraining order on the Bahia Emerald, based on the fact that it might be seized by the Brazilians as they believed that it was stolen by them.
