The rare emerald inherited its name from the Queen Isabella of Portugal, the queen consort of King Charles V (1516 to 1556), the Holy Roman Emperor, the King of Spain, and Archduke of Austria. This precious jewel was used as a bargaining chip by Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes. He wanted support and in return offered the Emerald to the Spanish royalty. Later, it is known that this transaction was never successful and hence gave it as a present to his wife. However, in the late 18th century, the Cortes family tried to ship 100 emerald-filled chests to Spain but wasn't successful. Somehow, after 200 years, the chests were recovered floating somewhere in the sea and to my surprise a total of around 1 million carats of rough emerald and 100,00 carats of polished Emerald were received. Now that's big!
