Legend recounts the narrative of Dionisis, the Greek God of wine, who was offended one day by a mortal. Infuriated, he called forward awful tigers to extract retribution on the next mortal who might cross his way. Sadly, the lady Amethyst, on her way to pay tribute to the Goddess Diana, was the unfortunate explorer. The pure young lady abruptly ended up facing the tigers, called forth by the vindictive Dionysus. Goddess Diana, then to spare her from the monsters transformed Amethyst into a statue of natural crystalline quartz. The crystalline lady was beautiful to the point that Dionysus, in distress and regret, sobbed tears of rich wine over the statue. His tears recolored the quartz purple, accordingly making the idyllic gemstone that still bears her name. While the inceptions of the name is tragic, Amethyst goes about as a talisman against undesirable temper and serves as a charm of protection for voyagers and explorers.
