How to Perform Vedic Pooja/Prana Pratishtha of Gemstones

For ages, gemstones have been believed to carry within them immense astronomical powers. Numerous excavations and independent studies have demonstrated the pseudoscientific use of gemstones as alternatives in medicinal practice in ancient civilizations. They have been believed to possess abilities to improve the financial status, boost low confidence, prevent bad energies from negatively impacting our lives, transform the body’s aura, and release blocked energies.
HOW DO GEMSTONES WORK?
The majority of gemstones are formed naturally within the earth's crust and surface as metamorphic rock and crystal compressed over time, whereas others are known to be small fragments of meteorites and planets such as Mars and Jupiter that collided and fell on Earth. These shattered pieces, discovered as crystallized minerals, contain an enormous amount of vibrations. When worn by individuals as gems of various colors on earth after polishing and refinement, the energies reflected by them (passing through the sun) get absorbed in the wearer’s skin, eventually resulting in a balanced aura.

WHY DO GEMSTONES NEED VEDIC POOJA?
From mine to shop, gemstones undergo many treatments involving cutting and polishing to enhance their appearance. In the process, gemstones travel miles of distance, passing many hands simultaneously, absorbing the negativity of their surroundings. This leads to the exhaustion of gemstone vibrations. Thus, a minimal remedy in the form of Vedic puja is performed to release the ill energies that may be trapped in the gemstones. The idea behind performing basic pooja, Vedic puja, or prana pratishtha is to restore the energies of the gemstone so that they can work with their full fervor.

TYPES OF PUJA PERFORMED FOR GEMSTONE ENERGIZATION
- Basic Pooja
- Vedic Pooja
- Prana Pratishtha
BASIC POOJA: A simplified version of Vaidik Puja. It is the standard way to worship the divine when a retailer includes new items in their stock for sale. This is done using basic puja items to cleanse the gemstone of the bad energies surrounding the gemstone in stock. The worshiper needs to light a Diya or candle, chant a mantra, or sing the Vedic hymns in praise of the natal planet that the gemstone is associated with. Basic Pooja falls into the realm of the Nigama ritual, where one doesn’t need any idol or image to perform the puja.

VEDIC POOJA: It is a mid-level pooja in which the natal planets personified in form of gemstones are worshiped. It requires a qualified expert to chant suggested sacred mantras invoking the cosmic energies to enter the gemstone. Symbolically, the Taittiriya Upanishad (one of the renowned Vedic texts, describes the descent of the deity in the world forms). The process boosts the vital energies of the gemstones so that they can align with the system of the wearer.

Step 4: Chanting Mantras: Perform the puja and recite the suggested mantra of gemstones 108 times. Now you can wear the gemstone on the suggested finger or neck (if you have bought a pendant) as suggested by the priest or astrologer.
PRANA PRATISHTHA
The terms "Prana," meaning "life force/breath/spirit," and "Pratishtha," meaning "installed," refer to the rite of infusing the spirit of god in the vessel or gemstone. Prana Pratishtha is a stronger form of Vedic puja where hymns and mantras are chanted in the name of the individual. According to Indian astrology, the ceremony hymns are chanted to invite the deities and have them reside in the gemstones, which are nothing more than a particle of the natal planets.
Prana Pratishtha is typically performed by learned priests who have a thorough understanding of all four Vedas. The prana pratishtha puja is practiced through 16 traditional rituals to invite the blessings of the deities of the ruling planets, starting with inviting the deity with love and respect to invite their blessings and sending them back to their abode.
WHY DO WE DO PRANA PRATISHTHA FOR GEMSTONES IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY?
Gemstones are vessels that retain a higher level of energy and potency. Performing a prana pratishtha strengthens the magnetic field of gemstones, transforming them into Yantras with their own healing powers. These yantras ultimately help the wearers magnify their mediated states of mind and align their vibrations. A gemstone that hasn’t been energized or charged is purely ornamental.
*Note- Please note that gemstones need special care and routine when prana pratishtha at home has been performed.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING PRANA PRATHISHTHA POOJA?
Prana Pratistha is a mystical process that can be explained to some extent using a theory in quantum physics called-Entanglement. According to the theory, the term describes the process of how particles of energy interact with each other regardless of their concepts of time, space, distance, state, and actions. A colossus of extraordinary sacred mantras infuses the subtle divine force into the dead matter. Once the process is complete, the matter and the divine become one pure channel of cosmic energies flowing together and yet independent of their intelligence.
WHAT ARE THE DETAILS REQUIRED IN PRANA PRATISHTHA/ENERGIZATION?
- Name of the wearer
- Date of Birth
- Place of Birth
- Time of Birth
- Gender
- Clan/ Gotra (If available)

This finger stands for hope, peace, and love. The wonder gemstones recommended for this finger are coral and ruby.
- Little Finger:The smallest finger of the hand, i.e., the little finger, represents relationships.
