Pricing Details of Amethyst Stone
Amethyst price per carat in India usually starts from INR 380 and can go up to INR 136,500. Being a robust gemstone (Moh’s hardness - 7) and abundantly available in nature, amethyst is used in jewellery on a commercial scale. Its prices are influenced more by the colour and less by other factors. Yet origin, cut, and clarity carry some degree of influence on its prices.
Factors Affecting Amethyst Stone Price & Quality
The quality of original amethyst is defined primarily by its colour. Yet, beforehand knowledge of other factors can help our customers select the most competent option and buy the best quality amethyst online as per their preference.
Origin
- Brazilian amethyst prices range between INR 300 to INR 400 per carat and are usually higher than other origins because of superior colour quality.
- On account of better clarity, African amethyst can also command decent money, though that may differ from one stone to another.
- Zambian amethyst is the other famous amethyst origin because of the decently saturated raspberry purple colour.
Colour
The cost of amethyst is decided almost entirely by its colour. Deep purple amethyst with slight red and blue hues draws higher pricing than too-dark or too-light gemstones. colour zoning or inconsistent colour distribution can marginally reduce amethyst cost on a per-carat basis.
Clarity
Amethyst is largely free of visible inclusions. However, when present, they may appear like reddish brown needles or L-shaped bands and can reduce the overall worth of amethyst.
Cut & Shape
A finely cut gemstone not only illuminates colour and light better but can cleverly conceal the inclusions. Faceted gemstones are more expensive than amethyst cabochons because of the stone wastage incurred in the process. On similar grounds, if overall quality remains the same, round and oval shapes are cheaper than square or other customized shapes.
Carat weight
Unlike other precious gemstones, amethyst is abundantly available in nature. For this reason, one may not find an exponential increase in the price of amethyst vis-a-vis the carat weight.
Treatment
Due to sufficient availability, jamunia is not that vulnerable to profiteering practices like synthetic processing or treatments. However, it may still be subjected to fracture-filling or colour-enhancing measures. Usually, natural amethyst is more valuable and astrologically compatible than synthetic or treated ones. To ensure value for money, we advise our customers to buy original, certified amethyst online or from reputable dealers.
Note: Gemstone prices in India are calculated both in Carats and in Ratti. The amethyst price per carat always amounts to the amethyst stone price per ratti. (1 Ratti = 0.9 Carats)
