Giving a rating of 7 to 7.5 out of 10 on the Moh’s Scale of Hardness, this spectacular gemstone is mined in the areas of Sri Lanka, Australia, Brazil, Myanmar, Canada, India, Madagascar, USA, Namibia and Tanzania. The name Cordierite given to an Iolite is due to the name of its discoverer Louis Cordier, on which this gemstone has been named upon.
