How To Wear An Amethyst

Published on Sep 29, 2015

Due to its alluring purple color, amethyst has become a choice of gemstone for many jewelry lovers. However, astrologically speaking it has been popular since ancient times as it finds it mention in Puranas as well. Vedic astrology believes that an amethyst helps in pacifying the malefic effects of Lord Shani, one of the most feared lords among the Hindu deities. It denotes Saturn and is said to offer numerous benefits to its wearer. Those who are involved in knowledge-driven fields like scientists, mathematician, physicians and research scholars, amethyst is believed to be very beneficial to them. This gemstone offers benefits in terms of luxury and helps in fixing monetary and love related issues.

HOW TO WEAR AN AMETHYST:

Since, an amethyst is considered to be a substitute to the famed and expensive Blue Sapphire, initialising it requires care and adherence to certain rituals. According to the Vedic Astrology, the following guidelines are mentioned for preparing an amethyst gemstone.

The Amethyst gemstone can be made into a ring or a pendant with silver only. This ring should be worn on the middle finger of the right hand on a Saturday Evening during Krishna Paksha (descending moon).

Amethyst

To prepare the ring or the pendant for wearing, place it at the bottom of a metal bowl and add the following one by one:

1. Ganga Jal
2. Tulsi leaves (Indian Basil)
3. Unboiled cow’s milk
4. Honey
5. Ghee (clarified butter)

Recite the following mantra 108 times, to energize the ring

“Om Sham Shanishcharaye Namah”

The ring/pendant can then be immediately taken out of the bowl and cleaned with water and worn on the middle finger of the right hand.

The brightness and the color of this gemstone have always made it the choice of gemstones for the royalty all over the world. Although quite affordable now, it is the most valued variety of quartz in the world. The birthstone of the February babies, it is one of the most desired colored gemstones for jewelry purposes. Below we are sharing some tips which would help you identify a real gemstone among the fakes.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GENUINE AMETHYST

The color of the gemstone should be strong reddish-purple to purple without any tinge of brown.
It should lack eye-visible inclusions.
The cut of the gemstone should be perfect and immaculate. A poorly-cut amethyst commands a lower rate in the retail market.
High specific gravity i.e. it should be heavier than an average stone of the same size.

EASY IDENTIFICATION TIPS FOR A REAL AMETHYST

There should not be any color zoning or appearance of any brownish tinge.
The color of the gemstone should be brilliant purple. If it is too dark then probably it will appear dark in dim lights. Avoid such gemstones.

While Amethyst is a relatively affordable gemstone, still lower grades of these gems are often heat treated and dyed to artificially enhance its value. Dear Parikkhit,
Thank you for reaching out to us! We would be glad to help you. We consulted our expert astrologer and got to know that Amethyst should be worn on the right hand in the middle finger. It is also not suggested to wear Amethyst in the ring finger because it might lead to negative impacts since the ring finger is associated with the Sun and Amethyst is related to Shani. The Sun and Shani share an inimical relation and therefore wearing an Amethyst in the ring finger is not advised.
For any other queries, feel free to contact us at +91 11 4084 4599 or mail us at support@gempundit.com
We wish you have a great day ahead.
Warm regards,
